The challenge

Amy De Winter released her own wine: Le Grand Copychat, a Sauvignon Blanc from the Côtes du Marmandais, nine months on French oak. Four label designs, her dog Ralphie on the label, and a launch date already fixed.

The site had to be ready for that date and stay out of sight until then. Anyone looking early was meant to see nothing of the bottle. From the launch moment on, visitors had to land at the shop right away.

Our approach

We built a static site without a framework: HTML, CSS and a little JavaScript. The page loads instantly and there is very little that can break.

Over the site sat a countdown screen carrying the launch moment. At the agreed hour it took itself away, with nobody having to deploy anything. Anyone who wanted an early look got in through a hidden key in the page. Until then the site stayed on noindex, so search engines left it alone.

The result

At the agreed hour the site opened on its own, with the four labels, the story behind the wine and a button to the shop.

There is no cookie banner, because the visitor numbers come from a measurement that sets no cookies. The press page and the legal pages were there from launch.
